If you like old documentaries about life, music and culture I can highly recommend Folkstreams, A National Preserve of Documentary Films about American Roots Cultures. There are a couple of documentaries by Alan Lomax that are pretty interesting.
Daniel Romano last night in Sala Rocksound Barcelona
Araceli and I finally got to see Daniel Romano last night. It was my wife’s birthday so it was a pretty good ending to her special day. The gig was great, the sound was good and the band was awesome live. The only let down was perhaps that Daniel Roman wasn’t wearing his awesome cowboy suit, but what can you do on a Tuesday in small venue in the north of Spain after a long European tour. I got a chance to say hi to him after the gig and managed to ask the question that has been nagging me since the first time I heard him. What Gibson model is his awesome sounding acoustic, the one with the Daniel Romano inlays over the freatboard? My guess was a re-issue Gospel and it turned out I was right, it’s a 1995 Gibson Gospel.
I completely missed the release of The Band – Live at the Academy of Music 1971 last year, I just found it on Spotify. It’s an amazing 4 CD box-set with a DVD and I might actually have to buy it, even though I haven’t bought CD’s for at least 5-6 years. Thank you Robbie, even if just did for the money.
Araceli and I are very excited about seeing Daniel Romano live in September. He is doing his first European tour and is planned to play Rocksound here in Barcelona on Araceli’s birthday, the 30th of September 2014.
Araceli and I have a gig tomorrow night, Wednesday 16th of April, with our band Chest Fever. This time we are actually headlining and are going to do a 1 hour set in 33 I 45. We will start around 20.30 so if you are in town and feel up for some Swedish/Spanish country sung in English then please come by. This will be our fifth gig and I have actually managed to never perform twice with the same guitar. Tomorrow I will bring my beloved Morris W-40 and maybe an old Greco Telecaster for some country twang.
Update: April 18, 2014 Chest Fever – Not so young anymore, live at 33 I 45 in Barcelona 16th April 2014
Tomorrow night Araceli and I have a gig with our band Chest Fever at Palau Alòs, C/ Sant Pere més Baix 55 in Barcelona. We are on at 21 so if you are in town and feel up for some Swedish/Spanish country sung in English then come by. I will bring my Levin 174 which sounds a bit like the Goya T-18 in the clip below.
Update: March 3, 2014 Chest Fever – We got to keep on moving, live at the Palau Alòs in Barcelona 1st March 2014
I have recently fallen in love with Daniel Romano, well not in a gay way, he just happens to do exactly what I would like to do. When I discover artists like this I never really know what to feel. Should I slap him in the face out of pure jealousy or just shake his hand and say, well done? Everything is so perfect, the songs, the band, his voice, the guitars, the suits, even down to the artwork. Well he seems like a nice guy and I really like what his doing so I have decided to just take off my hat and bow.
