Claes Anderson Band

Claes Anderson Band recording in Slim Studio Bcn 2017-04-21Claes Anderson Band in the studio, I took out my 1960 Levin LS-18 for the first time

Last Friday we got to record two tracks, Coming home and Standing tall over the ones that have fallen, with the Claes Anderson Band. It was our first time in the studio but things went pretty smooth so I think we will be back for a full album soon enough. I played on my 1960 Levin LS-18 and my 1966 Goya T-18. Now we just need to mix and master the songs and then I will post them here.

We had a gig last weekend and it was great fun. It was our second gig ever, actually our first one with a drummer so things are still a bit shaky. Jordi from Rodeo Rose has joined us on drums and it feels like we are slowly finding our roles in the band. I got a chance to play electric guitar on 8 out of 19 songs which was great fun, I haven’t played electric for 2-3 years. I played on my 1968 Levin LT-18, like last time and my 1977 Greco Spacey Sounds TE-500N which sounded pretty great. I’m already looking forward to our next gig, I think we will play in Barcelona in the beginning of April. Thanks again to Toni from Legends for booking us without actually knowing what he got himself in to, we really appreciate it.

Chest Fever

Last Saturday Araceli and I had another gig with Chest Fever. We recently bought a Bill Lawrence A-300 pickup so Araceli could play her favourite little Tanglewood Premier TW133 guitar and I fitted my L.R. Baggs M1 in my 1968 Goya Model 163 and was very pleased with the result. You can listen to the whole gig on Youtube.

Daniel Romano

Araceli and I finally got to see Daniel Romano last night. It was my wife’s birthday so it was a pretty good ending to her special day. The gig was great, the sound was good and the band was awesome live. The only let down was perhaps that Daniel Roman wasn’t wearing his awesome cowboy suit, but what can you do on a Tuesday in small venue in the north of Spain after a long European tour. I got a chance to say hi to him after the gig and managed to ask the question that has been nagging me since the first time I heard him. What Gibson model is his awesome sounding acoustic, the one with the Daniel Romano inlays over the freatboard? My guess was a re-issue Gospel and it turned out I was right, it’s a 1995 Gibson Gospel.

Araceli and I are very excited about seeing Daniel Romano live in September. He is doing his first European tour and is planned to play Rocksound here in Barcelona on Araceli’s birthday, the 30th of September 2014.

Chest Fever

Chest FeverAraceli and I have a gig tomorrow night, Wednesday 16th of April, with our band Chest Fever. This time we are actually headlining and are going to do a 1 hour set in 33 I 45. We will start around 20.30 so if you are in town and feel up for some Swedish/Spanish country sung in English then please come by. This will be our fifth gig and I have actually managed to never perform twice with the same guitar. Tomorrow I will bring my beloved Morris W-40 and maybe an old Greco Telecaster for some country twang.

Movie of the day

Heartworn Highways poster

One of my favourite music documentaries is Heartworn Highways. It’s based around the whole Texas scene with Townes van Zandt, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, and Steve Earle, just to name a few. I thought it would be possible to find the documentary in full on Youtube but apparently not so you will have to buy it or download it. These are my two of my favourite clips from the movie. The first one because it shows how awesome session musicians were back then, check out Albert Lee on guitar playing a 335, recorded at Creative Workshop in Nashville. The second clip is because it shows how truly talented Townes van Zandt was as a songwriter.

Daniel Romano

I have recently fallen in love with Daniel Romano, well not in a gay way, he just happens to do exactly what I would like to do. When I discover artists like this I never really know what to feel. Should I slap him in the face out of pure jealousy or just shake his hand and say, well done? Everything is so perfect, the songs, the band, his voice, the guitars, the suits, even down to the artwork. Well he seems like a nice guy and I really like what his doing so I have decided to just take off my hat and bow.
